Most Americans don’t really know what Cinco de Mayo is about, and that’s okay, from a marketing perspective. The holiday actually has very little connection to cracking beers open, and instead is in celebration of the 1862 Battle of Puebla, during which a motley group of rogue Mexican military men defeated the French Army when the French attempted to infiltrate their territory. Trade shows, conventions, and fairs are veritable zoos of presenters, vendors, information, and consumers, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd. We’ve experienced this scenario too many times; we’re walking around the convention grounds, eyeing all the tents, stopping in when we see a sign that strikes our fancy. Then we come across the mystery tent. They don’t have a banner and they don’t have a sign. We have no idea what their purpose is.
